“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”

-Thomas Merton

About Lloyd Phillips...

Lloyd Phillips has been painting and drawing since childhood , primarily for the enjoyment of creating art. He spent his early life in Northern Ontario where he formed a deep bond with nature, as expressed in landscape subjects with flowing water, skies and clouds, and the rugged rock forms of the Canadian Shield. In 2021, he retired from a 45 year career as a professional land use planner, which included work for municipal governments and operating his own consulting businesses. His creative ability was one of the attributes that enabled a successful career in this field in Ottawa and the opportunity to work with many creative people and the privilege of working for a wide range of clients.

Although he is primarily self taught, Lloyd has attended classes in painting and drawing at the Ottawa School of Art and he has worked in groups with some of Ottawa's leading artists.

Lloyd works in oils, acrylic, watercolour, pen and ink, pastels  and pencil drawings. The subjects of his work are primarily landscapes, abstracts and drawings, and the range of subjects is expanding to include portraits, urban sketching and historical events.
